The Icy Surface of Europa

A false color image showing details of the ice layer covering the surface of Jupiter's moon Europa. In this image, taken by NASA's Galileo spacecraft, the bluish areas are the icy plains, while the brownish and reddish regions are places where the ice contains some contamimation. A liquid water ocean is thought to exist beneath the ice on Europa. If this ocean exists, it may contain life.
