A Microbe From Mono Lake
A false-color electron micrograph image of Tindallia californiensis.
This microbe thrives in the mud at the bottom of California's Mono Lake in highly alkaline conditions
and in an environment which is almost three times saltier than ocean water.
This is just one example of the many different life forms found here on Earth which can survive in
extreme environments.
Finding extreme life here on Earth tells us what kind of conditions might support life on other planets.
